Our Cultural Mission
The Mount Vernon Regional Arts Council is an organization that wishes to broaden the area's knowledge and participation in the arts throughout Mt Vernon and the surrounding community with the goal of strengthening the arts in the region. We wish to add value to the quality of life in our community through communication and education about the arts.
The MVRAC is a totally volunteer organization dedicated to furthering education, entertainment
and enlightenment in our local area through the major art forms: Visual Arts, Dance, Music and Theatre.
To increase the participation and enjoyment in the arts by local people of all ages as well as visitors and tourists.
To encourage and to promote artistic activities of all kinds - writing, acting, painting, photography, film, music, sculpture, dance and more.
To create a sense of community among the artists who live, work, teach, show and perform in the Mt Vernon area.
To encourage sponsorship of and participation in artistic activities by the Mt Vernon area business community, city government and other institutions.
To serve as a source of information and communication between all groups and individuals involved in the local arts scene.
To maintain communications with art councils and organizations on local, state and national levels.
We sponsor, support and produce the annual Not So Square Arts and Literary Festival, Adult Community Theatre, Children's Theatre, Movies in the Park, Tango Festival, Home Grown Books, The MARC, and artists throughout our area.
